Continued growth in the sector has been accompanied by rising emissions,\u00a0and between 2012 and 2018, carbon emissions from the shipping industry\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/imo-study-shows-global-shipping-emissions-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">increased by over 9%<\/a>,\u00a0according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).\u00a0\u200b<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/imo-members-agree-on-50-pct-ghg-emissions-cut\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IMO has an ambitious target<\/a>\u00a0of reducing carbon emissions by 40% by 2030 and 70% by 2050,\u00a0compared to 2008.
